Suzuki SXForce More Like Sportbike Than Sports Car: Live from SEMA 2007

LAS VEGAS — There aren't too many two-wheeled offerings here at SEMA, but Suzuki delved into their sportbike heritage to spruce up its new SX4 Sport and create the Hayabusa-inspired SXForce. Designed and built by Road Race Motorsports, the SXForce steals dual exhaust pipes from a GSX-R sportbike and incorporates other motorcycle cues from its carbon-fiber body trim and side-view mirrors to a pearl, white/orange metallic paint scheme.

The SXForce's transformation from Tokyo dork to Vegas street smart is extensive. Its rear seats have been supplanted with an elaborate Rockford-Fosgate sound system, and motorcycle instrumentation and controls—including a Hayabusa-sourced handlebar —dominate the cockpit.

The car sits low thanks to a Tein coilover suspension setup, and 18 in. Enkei racing wheels house Rotora six-piston calipers with two-piece 355mm rotors. Up front, huge intakes and vents provide a glimpse of the generous radiator and thick Toyo T1-R tires, while a Carbontrix rear spoiler elongates its otherwise stubby proportion.

Though the SXForce's 250 hp turbocharged 2-liter engine should offer plenty of oomph, we would have loved to see a blown Hayabusa power plant under the hood, if only to complete the sportbike theme. —Basem Wasef
