A PM Jack-O-Lantern to Inspire Gadget-Loving Pumpkin Carvers Everywhere
PM Pumpkin

Challenged to create their own jack-o-lantern, PM staffers did what they do best: Turned on the power tools. Our Halloween creation is a true mechanic's pumpkin, with an electrical outlet, a light blub, and a whole lot of extra screws, just to be sure.

Much as we love individually wrapped mini-Snickers, geeky costumes and the seasonal return of candy corn, jack-o-lanterns are PM's favorite part of Halloween. This is in no small part because pumpkin carving offers us another excuse to use power tools. Finding our own orange gourd a tad under ripe, we employed the Breakthrough Award-winning Craftsman Nextec Multi-Saw for the necessary cuts. Then we outfitted our great pumpkin with the M-Spector Digital Inspection Camera—a.k.a., the gift of sight—which allowed onlookers to look at themselves looking into the eyes the jack-o-lantern. Finally, we gave our pumpkin a power-up—that is to say, we installed an electrical outlet where a less technologically advanced jack-o-lantern might have a mouth, and stuck in D battery eyes for a truly frightening amount of power. Unsurprisingly, our jack-o-lantern took best in show at Hearst's cafeteria pumpkin decorating contest. —Joe P. Hasler
