Under the Sea 3D Movie Takes on Global Warming: Exclusive First-Look VIDEO
Ever wonder what it would be like to capture some of the sea’s most mysterious denizens with only three minutes of film and a 1300-pound camera? Find out in this exclusive video from the producers of Under the Sea 3D, the latest movie from IMAX and Warner Bros., due out February 2009.

According to the Census of Marine Life, there are an estimated 230,000 known marine species in the world’s oceans—and scientists believe there may be three times as many unknown marine species. That biodiversity is directly threatened by global warming, which has already contributed to coral bleaching and suffocating plankton plumes that create dead zones. The filmmakers of “Under the Sea 3D” wanted to explore how climate change has already impacted some of the most exotic, remote undersea locations in the world.

Details of the film are scarce, but we do know that director and cinematographer Howard Hall and his crew traveled to southern Australia, Papua New Guinea and around the Indo-Pacific region, capturing these delicate ecosystems in large format 3D film to give viewers a the opportunity to experience what it would be like diving there—the images will leap off the screen and float around the theater, putting the viewer in the movie. —Erin McCarthy
