Tiny Motors: Gallery from Model Engineering Society’s Annual Expo

Someone passing by might think the little engines, sawmills, guns and machines are toys. In fact, they’re real devices—really small but fully functional. They run, shoot, saw wood and are perfectly capable of going about their work like they were full sized. They are miniature products of skilled machinists and metal workers who turned out in force for the North American Model Engineering Society’s 17th Annual Exposition at the Seagate Convention Centre in Toledo, OH. Popular Mechanics was there to cover the action. We were awed by a tiny Duesenberg, exact replicas of historic Colt revolvers and working farm machinery so small it’s more in scale with a corn kernel than a bushel. It was all in good, clean and small fun.

Lou Chenot's 1932 Duesenberg
Lou Chenot's 1932 Duesenberg may be a work-in-progress, but it's a favorite at all the shows he attends. Lou had to mold or fabricate everything from the tires to the glass lenses for this funtional model. He was a gracious host at his booth, answering questions all weekend about his models, which were the main draw for several attendees.
