10 Awesome Gadgets You Should Grab for 2008: Midyear Roundup

A lot of gee-whiz products come through our doors here at PM. And a lot of them make us yawn. But during the six months since CES, some toys had us sitting up, smiling and paying attention. Here are the top gizmos we¹re excited about so far this year, ranging from the practical (surge protectors and hard drives) to the downright silly (a dancing robot). Some came out within the last few months, and others you¹ll have to wait until later in the year. All are on our wish lists for birthdays, holidays, tax-return sprees and everything in between.

Hasbro A.M.P. Robot

As if the Rolly wasn't enough dancing robot for you. Plug your MP3 player into this Automated Music Personality (A.M.P.) and he starts dancing with all the skill that his Segway-like wheel will lend him. Using a control, you can roll him across the room and turn his plate-like hands into makeshift turntables. Sure, it's cool, but when it comes out in October, A.M.P. will present potential buyers with what we have dubbed the "Rock Band Problem": This toy takes up serious living room real estate. — S.P.

Merrell's jacket is a stupendous idea and certainly has strong implications in the back-up cold weather protection market. I'm sure it's unstuffed weight and packing size is minimal compared to it's stuffed insulation factor. Great for a 1-2 day hike up a mountain in the spring/fall/summer? I do wonder about it's ease of cleaning though...

Regarding the DP1, Leica does NOT make similar cameras. I don't know how that got started, but the so-called Leica equivalent is a completely different kind of camera. They are not even remotely the same. I explain this all in my blog about the DP1: http://mydp1.wordpress.com/2008/01/06/dp1-siphoning-leica-m8-sales/

The Logitech G25 wheel compares very favourably against the Driving Force GT, in that it's far better, with a clutch pedal, H-shifter gearstick and higher build quality.

Ok, All Belkin needs now is to add a remote sensor. So that your remote can be programed to make this powerstrip respond when you push the "all off" button
